Game Conventions Aftermath
Most of the big game conventions are now over for the Summer, and boy have there been a lot of new games showcased..
Flight Sims got another "lite" title added to the mix from Wargamming.net. You may know about these guys from their other recently released title World of Tanks. Keeping with the theme they will be calling their next military sim World of Warplanes. Yes, it is an MMO, and it will feature planes from the "Golden Age of military aviation."
Revisiting the "other" planes sim - World of Planes has some new information and screenshots on their web site. There is also a nice interview over at SimHQ with the CEO of Gaijin Entertainment Anton Yudinstev. Good stuff.
The highly respected Tribes franchise makes a come back with Tribes Ascend, an MMO free to play being created by the people who made Global Agenda - HiRez Studios. The graphics certainly do impress, and really carry the feel of the original Tribes games.
Having received a new Xbox Kinect for Father's Day I've been keeping an eye out for new interesting console games. Imagine my joy at seeing another mech game Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor previewed on Joystiq.com. Now don't get me wrong, I don't really expect them to pull off a "must buy" mech game. Like a lot of people, I have a hard time seeing anyone successfully creating a Kinect based sim of any kind without a decent hand held controller.
Of course there is the official "reboot" of Mech Warrior being created by Piranha Games. You know, the guys that brought you Duke Nukem Forever. Not much has been heard from them since their PR release back in 2009, and Duke Nukem Forever was just really really bad.
